OLIVER CHARLES
I chose Oliver Charles for my project. He is a 21 year old photographer from London. Charles bases his career on the concept of nature photography mixed with the field of creating his dreams into a reality. He likes to dive into the concept of mixing the two very different worlds of dream and reality together to show that the lines do cross over onto one another.
When he started out as a photographer, he found it to be mainly trial and error. He never believed into looking into tutorials so he figured out everything he knows and applied to his photos on his own. He may have not believed into looking at tutorials, however he used every little tool he could use and applied it to his sense of style until it worked.
Currently, Oliver is a self-portraitist who only photographs himself in all of his photos. Recently, in an interview with Flickr, he said how while continuing to grow in his career path with photography, he would like to have other subjects than himself in his photos. He wants to incorporate women into his photos. Charles also wants to grow his career via including an element of fashion photography into his collection.
The first few photographers he was introduced to on this website, was Alex Stoddard and Rosie Hardy. They were also large inspirations for him. Ever since, he was determined to create his own style of photography in hopes that one day someone will be able to be inspired from his work as he was with his initial inspirations.
Oliver started photography 4-5 years ago, however he wanted to start off as a painter. He loved it and that is what he went to school for to study. He still loves it, but he felt as if it doesn’t compare to photography in the aspect that in photography, you can create a specific sense and style of imagery that you can’t necessarily get with painting. However, more of his earlier inspirations were famous painters which definitely influence his “painterly styles” into his photos.
Oliver is one of the more interesting photographers due to his specific visions that create a concept. Oliver discovered the art of photography when he was 16 years of age. His early inspirations that drove him to create what he does now, was Sally Mann and Norman Jean Roy. From this, he continued to spiral into visual art and was mesmerized how these specific photographers were able to create an essence and a “stop in time” that wasn’t easy to recreate. Oliver then went on a craze into finding new types of imagery to inspire him further. He found the website, Flickr.
When creating his photos, he never starts with a plan. Oliver is always trying to discover new camera settings. He has goals he wants and aspires to achieve, however prefers to live life in the moment and to be spontaneous. A goal he personally has is to travel the world to create his images, so when creating his photos he does prior research into where he would like to go, (within reason), and how he will get there.
Oliver finds himself heading towards fashion photography but also prefers to stay in his element of fine art. Currently, he is obsessed with the world of Dali who has been impacting his recent work. Oliver is working for the British Haute Couture house, Ralph & Russo.io.
